Vauxhall Astra brake discs and pads

I took my 59-plate Vauxhall Astra (47,200 miles) in to an independent garage yesterday for a full service and MOT. They advised changing the rear brake pads (as they were an MOT fail), and also the front pads and discs (still OK but likely to need changing sooner rather than later). As far as I know, it's the first time these have been changed on the car.

The total bill for the MOT, service and the brake work came to £569 (that includes VAT). It seems like a lot of money but in context, does that sound a fair price?

We may not win by protesting, but if we don’t protest we will lose.
If we stand up to them, there is always a chance we will win.

£100-£120 of parts at retail price, a couple of hours labour. I'd want change out of £250. £54 for the MOT, couple of hundred for a major service. Its a tad expensive but not overly expensive if you're happy with the quality of work they do.

Add on a full Service, Add on the MOT Add on VAT.

    Not outrageous

Depends what quality of discs and pads were used too. My initial thoughts were that's it's a bit on the high side but when you break it down it's probably fair enough.
You can have results or excuses, but not both.
