Phoning Uk landline from India

I'm traveling to India in Oct this year, and looking for a cheap way to ring a UK landline. I used to use O2 which would let me ring over the wifi and it was part of my call package,but they have now stopped that service. My other half does not do smart phones or will not use a computer, so things like whatsapp and skype I don't think will work.

Thanks for any help in advance.

You can call a regular phone using Skype as long as you've purchased credits. I don't know if it's the cheapest option though.

Time for a little computer training, methinks.

Leave your SIM card at home: roaming in India with a UK SIM is horrendously expensive.

VoIP - instead of making calls or messaging using the telephone network, it goes through the internet using WiFi or mobile data. For example using Skype or WhatsApp etc, with the app installed on your smartphone.

I normally use Viber, add a bit of credit and can call anywhere very cheaply, call quality variable but usually good enough.

So I have whatsapp on my phone I can use hotel wifi to call a Uk landline with the App ?

With Skype it's £6 per month for 400 minutes or £1.20 per month for 30 minutes. To call UK via wifi
