Yes scarifying will get rid of most of it if you do it enough but it is only one tool in combating moss growth. Moss in a lawn is a sign that the growing conditions for the grass are not ideal so combine scarifying with a good feed and some moss killer (this can be purchased in one combined product)

Good. I don't need to feel guilty about not giving a b*gg*r then!

I can ignor some moss but there's a lot this year. I decided to rake out as much as possible. I've not had great experience with moss killer since the old fashioned lawn sand went in favour of 'added value' stuff which killed the grass too.
Raking gives me the exercise & fresh air I'm missing, burns off a deal of calories, provides soft nesting for the birds and we'll see how effective it is. If it's back again later when I have a social life again I'm interested in the suggestions here. A couple of things I haven't heard of.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

We use Mo bacter as well. We have heavy clay soil with lots of moss. The Mo bacter sprinkles on and within a few weeks the moss is gone. No black dying moss either. The first year we limed the soil first but I don’t know if that helped. The Mo bacter smells a bit organic until it rains or you water it in.  No nasty chemicals either.
