Hot Water Settings

Hi,

I've always been puzzled as to what settings to put on the hot water controls. I'm sure that we're heating up far more water than we need. We're in a new build 4 room mid terrace with standard gas boiler but there are only the two of us at the moment.
Currently I run the water heating from 05:40 to 09:30 and then 17:00 to 21:30.
Does this seem right? What does everyone else use? Is it cheaper to heat the water up more overnight and would the water lose its heat?

I have mine on for an hour at 4 am and an hour at 4pm, this gives enough water for 3 people all day. Washing up, cleaning, normal washing at the sink, showers etc. Depending on how well your tank is insulated this should keep the water hot enough between warmings. If 2 people want a bath in the same 12 hours i put it back on manually for half an hour. All depends on your system and usage, i certainly wouldnt have it on as long as you do. If i were you i would experiment. It all depends on your routine and lifestyle.

I think its only cheaper to use electric at night if your on economy 7 or a similar tariff.

We have the water on for two of us for 40 minutes in the morning, that is enough for us each to have a decent shower (at least 5 mins each) and to do the washing up in the evening. If one of us wants a bath in the evening, we put it on for another 30 minutes.
