Then all you had to do was move the stuff
  • With respect, this situation has already happened and I was looking for advice in moving forward rather than criticism of what I didn't do. It was a very long and exhausting experience. We had a lot of things happening on the flight such as no food, no drink, no ice for my daughter's heart medication. There was a large number of annoyed and very angry passengers filling the aisles which meant it was very difficult to get up and move around. We were also having to make numerous phone calls to try and rearrange our onward travel as the delays would mean that we would now be landing on Xmas day. All these factors meant that at the time we weren't going to mess around trying to find extra seats that in turn would mean that we would be seated separately. The Qantas crew made us feel as though we had to give up the seat in order for us to leave Al Ain, we were given the impression that they were asking for our seat because all the other seats were now taken with passengers and crew.
If I could go back in time and do things differently then I am sure that I would have done some of the things that you are all questioning, however, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Thank you for your time in reading and responding to my post. I shall leave it there for now.

I hope you are never a witness in a murder trial. What started out as a cabin crew took your seat for 9 hours ends up with him sitting down for 5 minutes before just leaving a couple of items on it. Big fuss over nothing imo.

Wow, I am just so surprised how unhelpful some people are. You clearly didn't read and understand the point at all. I don't definitely don't need your opinion.

To be fair, it's quite hard to understand exactly what point you are making.

You start off being very vague and in doing so imply that your daughters sear was taken for an actual flight, not making it at all clear whether it was the 7hr flight to the UK or the 20 min flight to Dubai, then it transpires that the crew member only sat down for 20 minutes and only their 'stuff' was left behind, stuff you could easily moved. But obviously that is not as sensational as implying they 'took' your daughters seat for the hole 9 hours.

The title of your opening post is actually a complete red herring. What do you really need advice about? Whether you, and the rest of the passengers, are entitled to compensation for being sat on the tarmac for 9hrs?

In fairness, the points that posters are raising are the same issues that would be raised in court if the matter were ever to go that far. A lawyer acting for the airline could probably make it seem that you did not act reasonably, and so win the case.
