OK Thanks, I was nt aware they read water meters..Vans used for that. He would be looking for the water meter placed somewhere in the garden. I would think its courteous to knock first . I am surprised they have to check them because most water meters have the the cheap £10 dongle added onto the meter to change it into a short range smart meter, then the driver just drives past the property

Sadly, that isn’t the case. I have just moved into a new build and STW has installed standard digital water meters in the road. No smart dongles here.

We don’t currently offer smart meters to our customers. If we decide in future to introduce smart meters we'll let our customers know.

Agreed - Dwr Cymru have just replaced my water meter (again!!) and its a standard type -no comms dongle.

Anglian Water and not smart or remote monitored in any way. But the meter is embedded in the public foot path at the front of the property so easy to spot.
