MMD: Should I split my winnings and risk my wedding?

  • If this were real, I'd say don't pay for the wedding.

Far better for the prospective spouse to find out that their partner is obviously an idiot who likes to chuck money away before they get married and the house is repossessed to clear gambling debts.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Split it - fair's fair, and how were you going to pay for the wedding BEFORE the win?
  • Split the money, it's a lot of money, but a good friend is worth more than money, and as others have said, you will have a more expensive wedding than you planned.
I love MSE, Thank you to all who share their journey and knowledge to reach their goals and live a good life on a small income.
2025 will be a year of necessary challenges and changes, and closing some doors permanently that don’t serve me or are not in my best interest.
  • Even though I have suggested a YES I am so glad that I can guarantee that I will never be in this predicament because I do not gamble and never will. It caused a lot of arguments between my parents and is part of my upbringing that I try and forget.
I have just took early retirement after working 32 years in an average paid but mundane job and my former workmates could not believe that I had never had a bet or bought a scratchcard but I am the one who is laughing now , retired at 58, nice detached house , newish car and money in the bank. Betting - mugs game - just look at all the ripped up scratchcards on the floor and the profits that the big betting companies make.

    Enjoy your retirement. :)

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with gambling in moderation.
I used to have a 10p e/w round robin every Saturday (cost me £2) and it was a bit of fun.

From someone who also has a paid-for detached house, newish car, 3 overseas holidays a year - and retired at the age of 50. ;)
  • Hve a cheaper wedding and spend it on you two on the honeymoon!
