Upping your gain (broadband speed)

Hi not sure if anyone has ever done this but a colleague was troubleshooting a speed issue and was advise to try getting BT to "up the gain" neither of us have a clue what this means, anyway he did it and it did indeed boost their speed, he also did it on his home line and again the speed increased!
although after doing so apparently vocie calls are REALLY LOUD so he had to get it put back down :)

i havent had tiem to try this but just thought i'd share this and see if anyone knew what it was too

    I've been Money Tipped!
When I was on dial up many moons ago, I was always getting booted off and it was taking me ages to get online, umpteen attempts with little success. I called BT to increase the gain on the line and lo and behold, I was able to get online at first attempt and not losing the connection after ten minutes online. A friend who worked for a local IT company told me to do this, so I would reckon it would be same in the case of a broadband connection.

Yep the gain adjustment only does so much and is completely useless in some cases.

Increasing the gain works on dial-up but doesn't do anything on broadband unfortunately.
