:o:o:o:D Told you I'm not very good at this! :o:o:o:D I was looking at the little icon bottom right of screen saying 'local area connection speed'. I just checked on the speedtest site and it says "Speed your line supports:
Up to 6.5Mb" then the btinternet bit (which is what i use) says "up to 8MB" So, should I have fast loading on those figures please?

Yes. (I didn't really think there would be a problem with your speed, just wanted you to be able to determine what your speed really was and you can properly eliminate that being a/the problem)
I mean simply emails I'm sending myself from home to work and vice versa. They all sent and received fine until about 2 months ago (around 6 weeks after the hard drive reformat) and then I stopped getting any emails from work i sent myself to home (but could still send from home to work OK). Suddenly about 3 weeks ago the ones I sent from home to work didn't get through either. :(
I'd maybe start from scratch by getting rid of all your blacklists and whitelists but first, check if you have a trash/spam folder online. Are the home and work emails two different email accounts? If they're the same account then it's likely they're being downloaded and deleted off the server before you get to check with your other computer.
That sounds a good idea... wish the teo different 'experts' who came round could have suggested that! How do I find out what RAM I already have? Do you know roughly how much would it cost for me to upgrade to 2gigs plus the cost of someone fitting it because I have no idea what to do! :o

As albertross suggests. RAM is quite straightforward to install. Try crucial's system scanner to give you an idea of what is compatible and a rough idea how much it will cost (it can be quite varied depending on speed/quality of RAM etc).

You don't seem in need of a total new computer for what you need - reinstalling Windows might be a good idea (and keeping minimalist afterwards) and get someone to help you reconfigure.

I'd say some more ram would be handy indeed - an extra 1gb stick could triple your ram and make it be able to multitask much better. RAM is also quite easy to install - open the case, stick it in and use the clips to make sure its firmly in place usually.

If you desperately really want a new one, the one that banger posted looks decent although not one that is much better than yours. Also, would you also want a monitor with it or not?
