Is it cheaper to buy a camping car from abroad rather than in UK?

Is it cheaper to buy a camping car from abroad rather than in UK? We seem to see a lot of them come from Germany? is this the country to get them from? I have known in the past some cars to be cheaper from there. are there any particular makes you would recommend. we are probably looking for something like a 4 berth and diesel (as more economical we believe).

You are right that a lot of them are manufactured abroad and often they come in left-hand drive anyway; I'm not sure, though, whether it's cheaper to personally import them.

Generally people reckon that it's not really worth personally importing cars at the moment, as due to exchange rate movements it's no longer much cheaper to buy abroad than in the UK. But probably your best bet would be to search the internet prices of them in (say) Holland and the UK and compare.

I doubt there's any agencies handling personal imports of camper-vans, though, so you'd be left on your own somewhat and it's not for the faint-hearted.

I know that caravans are much cheaper abroad, and suspect the base price of motor campers are equally cheaper than the inflated uk prices!
