I have Antivir from Avira, initially as it's the first one I got on a magazine CD, but more recently it's come out pretty well in detection rate surveys compared to say AVG which seems to have slipped down a bit..

A recent new laptop here has a McAfee trial, but I think that might be going before I even connect it to the internet. From reading above I might run the NOD32 trial on it, or try Avast, but won't be surprised if I end up at Antivir again.

On the other hand, perhaps the sensible thing is to try NOD32 on this one, to see if it finds stuff that's been missed so far ...

Why do you have to throw insults around? Nobody else has complained about giving chaddy some advice. We're here to help each other, not to be grim. But hey, if that's what you need to feel clever... to each his own eh? ;)

Try using both of your eyes before posting nonsense. Take a look at posts #5 and #9.

Now that clever yourself, are you?

Maybe your trying to fight against it by having some cartoon breasts as your avatar.

I apologise for being the pedant (personally I think you're both being immature in your posts, both exacerbating an unpleasant thread and ignoring forum etiquette), but shouldn't it be "Maybe you're trying..."?

    Big d!ck? Probably not

Anyway, on a more serious note, I like NOD32. But as a reseller I'm bound to say that!!!

However, you all need to be aware that having an AV will not guarantee that you don't get infected - there are many ways to mask a malicious program and not every AV will detect them.

If you want to try the new Security Suite from Eset (the people behind NOD32) then you can download the curent Release Candidate (this is "nearly ready for general release", so better than a beta) then fill your boots here:
    www.eset.com/beta
scroll down and make sure you download the correct version for your operating system - you might have a 64-bit processor but windows will probably be running as 32-bit - get that one.

The current RC1 licence expires 1/11/07 so you'll not get much chance to use it in anger, but the ESS incorporates both a firewall and malware protection.

The new v3 of NOD32 is also there to download as well if you don't want the full suite.

Oh, please unistall any AV before installing any of the above. You also need to uninstall any current version of eset product before install the RC's, including earlier beta's.
