there are some cowboys that work for 50p a mile, by the time you insurane for courier work have goods in transit you can make no money unless you get a job both ways or charge £minDiv 1 Play Off Winners 2007

Hi
You can register to work for DHL Home Helivery, by calling the following number 0870 385 0300, They will take your details and your name is on a list for the area manager to contact. However if they already have a courier in your area, you may not hear from them, so if you are able to cover other areas your best bet is to contact your nearest DHL depot, ask if they have a Home Delivery Department and ask to speak to the Home Delivery Manager (it may be a different number). If you speak to them they will give you an idea of the areas that they need couriers.
Pay is per parcel and it works out around 80 to 100 pounds per week for delivering on average 25 to 30 parcels per day. Rounds are usually in a 2 -3 mile radius from where you live (But they are getting smaller as the volume increases), if thereis a vacancy where you live.
Good luck!0 -
I am a self employed courier - i wouldnt say it was worth doing part time.
It is hard enough sometimes when full time, not sure if the work would be there for part time, when were you thinking of doing it weekends ?:j0 -
Hi
Sorry for resuscitating an old forum!
I live in North Birmingham, just outside Sutton Coldfield and am looking for courier work. Can anyone recommend potential employers to contact, please?
Ideally I am looking for full-time work, I can work around 80 hours/week day or night and I don't mind traveling anywhere in the UK.
I am insured on my father's MPV (blue Peugeot 806, X-reg), but it has a little dent in the side and the trims missing from one side... does anyone know if this would be suitable?
Thanks!
PS if anyone has other ideas for where to look for ANY work, I would be most grateful. I am sick of wasting my time with fake jobs and agencies. Thanks again.0 -
Try www.shiply.com for courier work. As for your van the age of it might be a problem for some companies but not all. Best bet is to ring or visit your local courier firms and ask if they use owner drivers. Dont forget you will need goods in tranit insurance and liability insurance as well as commercial vehicle insurane on your van. Most companies will ask to see these before they take you on. Good luck and just contact everyone, work is scarce at the moment and theres lots of people fighting for it.0

Thank you for the tip vangirl!
"People are fighting for it" is the understatement of the year! I just looked on the mentioned website and saw insanity; for example, someone is bidding £53 to deliver furniture from Birmingham to Grimsby (156 miles). This could not cover even a third of costs. I presume people are adding loads to journeys that already have booked.
Thanks again.0 -
I see what you mean about Shiply! My father was looking on that site, and some people are not willing to pay more than a tenner for a long distance journey! Madness.
There is also boxby which is free. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -
