World War 2 hamper?

:santa2: Hi all you lovely inspirational peeps! I'm so excited after reading all these Christmas thread :j

Not content with being excited, I've gone and got myself inspired! I have a friend with a birthday at the end of next month and I'm thinking world war 2. I've already bought him a book and dvd and that was all I was going to give him but I'm thinking I can make it into a nice hamper. Now for the problem - I'm pretty skint! I've had a google to see if I could print off ration books or ID cards but I can't find anything  For the box I'm thinking a shoe box wrapped in camoflage (sp) wrapping paper, do you think that would be ok?

I'm ready to be inspired!
Thanks

A calender, produced with 1940s photo's or repro news headlines (lots on the internet).

A CD burned with old 1940's music, with a Vera Lynn label stuck on it. :D
    I have no signature.

You could copy and print something like this - google ration book images - they have the inside page view too.
    Reduce,re-use, recycle.

I have a bit of ww2 stuff knocking about somewhere from when I did a project with my oldies for ve day - mini union jacks, posters etc. Got a whole double cd too of songs and other stuff like churchills we are at war speech.
Pm me if you like quite happy to tape and send you copy and other bits -

How about putting in bag of boiled sweets - think ration was 2 oz per person.

    down the page a bit

    powd_egg.jpgPowdered Dried Egg (130g)
Included by popular request and often difficult to find.
Ideal for those wanting to try out wartime recipes.
This pack is equal to 10 average hen eggs.
Contains pasterised Whole Hen Egg Powder and is handy to have in the kitchen cupboard for emergencies.

This is supplied with a reproduction wartime label wrapped around the modern packaging. The label does NOT refer to the contents and is for historical interest only. It can be removed if required.

  • You've got some great ideas there that will look really good in a hamper :)
I know you said you have a book and dvd but I found ww2 documentary dvds in poundland (about 5 different sorts) if you're after another.
Also "forgotten voices"..a book about peoples real experiences are on offer in tesco (I think 2 books for £7 if I remember right..so you could get another book for someone else)

I'd love to see the shoebox when you've finished :)
