Nice Areas to live train commute to Leeds

Hello,

Me and my partner have not long found out we are expecting our first baby, we currently live in Wakefield close to the train station, however the property we are in now is not suitable for a family.

Wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on the best places to live with good schools etc and good train link to Leeds. Budget is around £900 a month.

I have a cheap flat in Bramley. The ease of getting to Leeds, Bradford and other parts of West Yorkshire by train and bus keeps me here whenever I am tempted to move. Nice park. It is near the canal also so I can cycle to many places along the towpath.

I wouldn't know about the schools though, not having children.

Plenty to choose from; Baildon, Guiseley, Saltaire and Horsforth spring to mind, plus other places further down the Ilkley and Skipton lines. Morley is nice enough but the train service isn't very frequent and so can be very congested. I don't know about schools either.

Hebden bridge. Slightly longer commute than some of the other places on here but it's so lovely! Such a great community and lovely walks. Very family friendly.
I rent out a two bed house there for £525 a month so for£900 you'd easily get something wonderful.

I've just been reading that Hebden Bridge has an above average suicide rate. It seems you have to be one of the better off middle class to appreciate the place. This article is from 2009 though.

I live near Bingley, on the Skipton line - 20 minute commute into Leeds, trains every half hour. You'll get a lot more house for your money if you have a BD postcode rather than an LS one. Not had to deal with whether schools are any good yet! Hope the house hunting goes well

Very generally speaking, the west and north of Leeds are considered to be the nicer areas. South and east can be mixed but generally considered to be a bit rougher.

Yes, I had heard that. Am very grateful you posted that article as I wanted to try a couple of little initiatives in the area in relation to mental health but couldn't remember where I'd read that about the suicide rate.

We have lived there for only a few weeks and we love it so far.
