Self-emp: professional indemnity insurance?

Hiya

I work self-employed in the media and education sector. For a new contract I need to get professional indemnity insurance and after reading about it on Business Link I realise I should have arranged some much sooner!

I've had a look online and have found some local companies (in South West), but none of them seem to mention 'professional indemnity' on their website. Could anyone in a similar situation please advise me how they sorted theirs out? Also, what kind of fee should I expect? £100s or £1000s?!

Thanks in advance :D

  • If you have a regulative body they should be able to recommend - My organisation got mine for £150 last year (before I was a member of the org) I was charged £1000 and the cover was LESS!

If you know someone in the same trade - ask them who theirs is with
I should add that I'm a doula so my insurance covers me to do with birth and babies so is considered quite high risk

hiya - 'me and me monkeys' (cool name btw!). Thanks for your advice, that's really helpful. Unfortunately at the moment I'm not part of any professional organisation, perhaps it's time I joined one! My problem is that I work in a number of sectors, so it's difficult to just join one organisation.

Maybe my best route is to find an insurance broker?

Useful to know the amount of money I might get charged, thank you!

for PI insurance. I use them, and they appear to cover more than just sector. The cost is in the low hundreds not the thousands.
