Bank Accounts for the Self Employed

Options
Hi all,

I'm new to this board and hope I've posted my question in the right place.

Today I've applied for an HSBC account for the 2nd time in 4 months and have been declined again!!! My credit score is quite high, 800s, and I don't have any defaults, CJ, IVAs or arrears on any of my credit reports. I want an HSBC account so that I can get an international $ account and another biz account for one of my projects.

I do have quite a lot of credit tho', but the adviser said to me that the only things that she can see is that I didn't/couldn't declare monthly deposits into my account as I'm self employed. I have been self-employed and profitable for 5 years

Has anyone experienced this problem and successfully applied elsewhere?

Currently I have all my banking business with Abbey and I want to spread the risk now (in light of the Northern Rock scenario). I've read some of the forums and Citibank & A&L seem like a good shot. But before I leave an imprint on my credit record, I hope someone out there can share their experience.

Thanks in advance

You might need to give yourself some business credibilty.

I'm self-employed and joined the FSB, costs 100 quid a year and gives a lot of business legal cover, advice, help out with tax & VAT investigations etc. I reckoned that was money well spent.

Now, the FSB push Co-op Business Banking. It's free business banking aimed at the Self Employed / small business, and has preferential rates to FSB members, (i also like the ethical side of things too), so for getting a Bus Acc, you've already got a toe in the door.

I switched from Abbey Bus Banking to this 3 years ago and I'm happy so far. Nearest branch is 1½hours away tho......

    IMO worth a look.
