This is a real wake-up call for me.
I have nearly been caught twice in the recent past.
Once for doing 80 on the motorway (I believe cameras are set to 88)
and once for doing around 33-34 in a 30 (i believe cameras are set to 38 in our area).

The insurance hit causes me more fear than the fine/conviction.

    So thanks for sharing.

I really wouldn't be concerned if you're declaring you first 3 points. I rang a few years ago to inform my insurance company (prudential) and they didn't bat an eyelid, no increase in premium. I think its so common now for people to get points.

Those that don't declare their points I have no time or sympathy for. You have to inform them, it will tell you that on your prosecution so I can't see there being any excuse. You're lucky not to be prosecuted again for non-disclosure, an increased premium/fine you're getting away likely.

A few months ago when doing hubbys insurance I used one of the sites that you have to change "assumptions" at the end, one of which being speeding fines.

Put his single SP30 in and the premium didn't even change. That charge is about 4 years old but I think that was the case even when it was new.

I think you are correct that you will largely get away with one SP30 (although this might depend on your age etc.).
However these things mount up, and sometimes (with claims) totally outside of your control. Convictions are of course within your control.

I'd still rather start from zero.
