    Hi all,

My son and daughter in law are off to the Port Aventura hotel for their honeymoon on Sunday, so we have been reading all the info from you!!

Does anyone know if there is an airport transfer coach/bus to the hotels or would it be best to get a taxi??

I have been to Barcelona and would recommend it for couples and families, but haven't been to Salou - yet!

    Thanks

Congratulations on gaining a Daughter :o

I took my children to Salou last week

We arrived at Reus airport expecting to get a taxi to Salou. Cost to the Hotel in Salou €28, return trip €25. Always argee the price before getting in the taxi.

In the baggage hall, if you can call it that, its a very small airport :D there is a kiosk of the bus company, return ticket of 9.90 euros each which will drop you at the hotel and pick you up for the return trip.

In short as there was four of us return taxis were only a little dearer than return bus trips and I think the time saved justify's this.

Besides its their Honeymoon, I would get a taxi, time is eveything on Honeymoon :D

Please feel free to check my posts on the first page and this page for further information. :D I am even thinking of going back at the end of the summer holidays

I hope they have a great time.

I seem to have covered somethings already, but as a quick report.

Flew from Luton to Salou on Saturday 28th May, Got to airport 2 1/2 hours before take off, check-in already open and a group of 12 yr old football players and thier parents/familes :(

Check-in done in 30 minutes, flight was delayed for 30 minutes, sittting was done in order, young children were called to pre-board, but considering probably half the flight was children, most people just waited in turn.

Landed about 20 minutes late, bags first off :D Had the choice of a bus or taxi (see post above) choose the taxi. Was in the Taxi 20 minutes after landing :rotfl:

Hotel Caspel very nice, arrive at 10.30pm, probably half full. food first day or so not too hot, but improved in the week. Lots of variety in the food, some to our taste some not, thats life  outdoor pool cold, and some twigs in it, probably needed cleaning more often. Indoor pool very nice. Rooms very good, housekeeping excellent, very very clean and the staff very polite.

Port Adventura is excellent, bought the 3 day, 2 parks, 1 price ticket had a great time, the waterpark is also great, Im sure the weather helps :D

I wore the children out in two days so we had a day off (shopping) before heading back to the theme park.

Flight back also delayed (25 minutes) check-in opened 2 hours before take-off. Boarding passes not given out in order, were sixth in the queue but got passes 149-152!!! Also would love to know why does people push into a check-in queue???

Luton, cold, wet and damp - isn't it great to be home??

As I mentioned the airport is small, 8 check-in desks, 2 baggage carousals, 4 departure gates but that only makes things move quicker :D

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

    Hope this helps.

Salou is a good resort for kids - great beach with play areas on, lots of fast food places, kids entertainment in pubs etc. if you can overcome some of the more "english abroad" aspects. We went for 10 days and spent 3 in Port Aventura and 1 in Costa Caribe with a 4 and 5 year old. Both theme parks are brilliant but as my two were a bit water shy at the time, PA was better. Loads of kids rides and playparks for that age group - and make sure you don't miss the shows - I was expecting them to be crap (we normally go to disneyland) but I was quite pleasantly surprised - also gives you a chance for a sit down. Food was the usual theme park prices but nothing completely out of the ordinary. Staying cool is a problem - it is open late so depending on whether you get a week or three day ticket, you may want to come and go rather than trying to stick it out all day. Incidentally a week ticket costs very little more, and two weeks likewise - see http://www.unpackagedattractions.co.uk/universal_med.asp
where you get a 7 day ticket for the price of a 3 day.

We came in by train and got off at Port Aventura then walked into Salou (our accom was on the PA side of Salou) which was odd, there is absolutely nothing at the station including any sort of shade ! (it is a 5 min walk to entrance or so) and it seems stuck in the middle of nowhere.

When we got the train into Barcelona, it was packed (think there is one an hour) and we had to stand (although I agree about the scenery from earlier post).

Barcelona is beautiful (been lots of times) but I don't think it is that good for kids (except the beach and the zoo/parks)

Finally, don't eat anything you don't feel happy with in Salou - we all got horrendous food poisoning (spaghetti bolognaise - from quite a upmarket restaurant) and when I came back, loads of ppl in work said, Oh it's the food poisoning capital of Spain. Not sure if this is true or not, but given how ill we were I would err on the cautious side.
