Grolier Account Help Required

I signed up for the free dora backpack and books a few months ago and used my girlfriends address to send the books to. Anyway to cut a long story short, 3 months later and I am still trying to pay the £8.48p but the company are refusing to take the money from my bank even though I have given them permission but they are now taking my girlfriend to court even though she has got nothing to do with it which I have explained in several emails I have already sent to this shabby company. I have tried phoning them but no-one ever answers, but they do reply to emails though saying to phone the number supplied. I wish I bloody could. I had another email from them this afternoon saying to contact them, so again I tried phoning them but guess what, you guessed it, no answer, so I left a message on the answer phone, within 5 mins I had received another email off a person called Tina Hurn who works for grolier saying she was out of the office until 29-10-07 but she has not left me another number to contact to resolve this situation. I have lost the account number so I can`t go online and pay it. I feel they are just waiting to get my girlfriend taken to court so I will then have to pay court costs of whatever it is as I have never been to court before in my life. Please, please can someone help me out, as this is really starting to get to me now and I am struggling to sleep at night. I have offered to pay but no-one is willing to take any money off me which I just don`t understand.

I never had a problem with Grolier when I got the Disney books. And always got through fine with the number on their website, which is www.grolier.co.uk .0

Have you tried paying over the net, I've had loads of books off them and I've never had trouble paying them.
Good luck0 -
hi there,
if i were you, i would write a letter, asking them to take the money, photocopy it for you to have as proof, and send the letter by rec. del. again proof for you!
before this though, i would go to the citizens advice, or the trading standards, which are both very helpfull!! it will be sorted out in no time!i keep losing weight, but it just keeps on finding me!!!!!!:D0 -
Grolier were featured on Watchdog about 8 years ago - people experienced exactly the same problem that you are experiencing.0

I don't understand how you can have trouble paying, post them a cheque or postal order....You don't need to speak to them to pay them. Put your full detials that you used to open an account, details of what you bought and the amount on the back of the payment so they can't get seperated and sent it to them
Also is it your name or your gf's name on the account? I'm confused how they even know her name or that she excists unless you've told them?Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.0 -
I am not surprised to hear you complaining about Grolier again, I had exactly the same problem with them over 20 years ago, they would not take the money from my bank account, they even returned cheques back to me. I went to the CAB and they had many complaints about this company, they then issue court proceedings against you, (the reason they are making the proceedings against your girlfriend is because they have got her name from the account details you gave them.) They have played this game for many years and it's about time someone took some severe action against them and get them sorted out.
Go to your CAB, don't leave it to go away because it won't and the longer you leave it the more they can ask for from the court if it gets that far.
Their stuff is good but the company is totally out of order. The Looney o:EasterBunf Loughborough..0 -
my husband signed up for the freebie from them. He got loads of letters demanding the money. After a few nasty letters he called them up and said he hadn't even received the books and bags and to stop harrassing him. They said they where sorry and left him alone. He did receive the books..
naughty i know but it sounds like he played them at their own game
Finally debt free, all thanks to this site and all the posters:j0 -
Might be worth writing them a letter stating that you have tried to pay and the full situation. Also mention that you have tried to contact them on several occations and have the records of that.
Hope you get it sorted. Does sound a bit of a nightmare. Company to steer clear of I think...0 -
The only suggestion I can make is to make the payment by cheque as you can trace cheques I have to be honest I can't stand grolier had a nightmare with them and it took ages to sort out I would never trust them again.0
