Rust on Gas BBQ

Hi all, joined the gas bbq crowd last summer and loving the convenience. Stored the bbq under waterproof cover in the shed during winter and now ready to put it to use again.

There are quite a few rust spots on the top cover and burn covers. The flames come out correctly, so that's ok but is there anything to be worried about with the rust? Is it worth treating (and if so how?) or is it just cosmetic?

Please see photos below.

Thanks.

I have same issue, in fact I do every year, never causes any problems. I do rub the worst off and run a hot burn before first use though. Adds flavour!

That!!!8217;s just cosmetic, mine has a cast iron grill that attracts rust. I just coat it with a good oil.

Out of interest, what oil? And doesn't it burn off - or are you using it when storing the bbq?

Why a cover in a shed?

It will trap moisture if it is water proof

Probably better with an old sheet unless your shed leaks.

I light rub over with an oily rag(veg will do) will help deter corrosion

Think of it as an extra iron supplement.
