I didn't use my MBNA credit cards for a few months now, I don't owe anything and both my balances are 00.000.
So that means that if a mistake is made a few years down the line and my account is used, they could potentially reopen my account?
Yes. Make sure that any CPA are cancelled and that you have confirmation to that effect!

I don't think I've ever had any CPA on any of my credit cards. To tell you the truth, I didn't know what was a CPA before it was mentioned in this thread.
I buy things (never bills or rent or anything like that, just those little luxuries and extras) and then when I get the statement with the next payment date, I chose what I want to pay on it, then I make a payment through my bank website. That's all I do with them. That's why I go for low APR cards in general. Usually I pay off one thing then I buy again, I don't like to accumulate too much on my cards.

    Santander bought Abbey in 2004.

Santander is most probably responsible for the mess that Abbey is in.........
There is a good thread about CPA, nice to learn something : http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=256
I think I have a few of them on my debit card. But not on my credit cards.

Just phone and ask for the limit to be lowered. Nothing suspicious about it. In branch, when the credit limit comes up the computer offers the maximum available, we then have to ask the customer if they're happy or if they'd prefer a lower limit. If it's by post obviously you're not there when the card get approved, so it gets sent out with the max limit then you call to lower it if you want.

Good job with the high limit though, highest I've seen is 10,700!

PBA, am I right to think that the computer just matched my other Abbey mastercard? Because, really, I hardly have more than £400 on a credit card at a time.
