Car Insurance Advice Please!
[Deleted User]
Hi folks I'd be grateful for some advice here. Last night I had an accident with my car and it was my fault. I have had a quote for the repairs to my own car which is £545 and am still waiting to hear what the repair cost for the other guys car will be - possibly a similar figure.
I have never claimed on insurance before and wondered how much will this effect my premiums and would i just be better paying it myself?! Will it just cost me more in the long run if I claim? I am panicing a bit about all of this. My excess is £250.

You've had an accident call your insurance company and let them deal with it. Yes you will lose some NCB and your insurance may increase with your existing provider, but shop around and you can still get good deals.0

Yes you will have to pay more in future but unfortunately I think you are going to have to live with that because it almost certainly won't be cheaper to pay for it yourself given that there are 2 lots of repairs to pay for.
Also you might find the other person suffers some whiplash and puts in a pesonal injury claim (this can happen up to 3 years later as sometimes medical conditions take a while to appear and/or assess the full impact).
My advce is DON'T pay for it yourself because the personal injury claim may follow (and YES people can get whiplash from a small bump - certainly with todays ambulance chasing solicitors around).0 -
You should report this to your insurers and let them deal with this, especially the TP. As other posters have stated, the TP may claim for injuries, temp hire car whilst own in for repair etc.
The additional cost to your insurance may not be too bad. However, do you have protected NCD ? If so, then you should not expect to pay much more especially when you can look for alternatives at renewal and still retain full NCD.
Best bet is to speak to your insurance company/broker & they will advise you.0
