Refund due to a complaint

Hi
Currys agreed to refunding me 15% as there were scratches on a delivered washing machine I had bought. I had paid for the washing machine though a gift card which gave you 8% back, so worth doing it that way. However, the refund is now going back into a gift card and coming out in the post to me, as that was the original payment method. Is there any way round this, ideally I want a cheque or credit back into a credit card, to make use of the gesture?
Thank you

Sell the gift card.0

If you paid with a gift card that is the way they will refund.
You can make use of the gesture0 -
Good news, you can use the gesture - you can spend the gift card! !!!128513;
Unfortunately they can only refund to the original payment method, so you’re snookered.
Worth considering the 8% saving vs the ease of a refund next time.0 -
Thanks everyone, to be precise, I paid something like 2% on a credit card and the rest on the gift card and they!!!8217;re refunding it back in that same ratio.0

It may be annoying but under money laundering regulations, retailers are meant to refund using the same payment method, to prevent those with illegal funds hiding the source of those funds by purchasing and getting a refund to a different payment type.0

People keep stating this but it simply isn't true.
There is nothing whatsoever in the relevant legislation that states refunds must be made to the same source as the original payment and the only reasons this is done are so that the retailer can reclaim any card processing & transaction fees associated with the original payment and it makes it easier for tracing transaction details in the future.
Even if a refund is made onto a different card from the original payment, there will be a money trail showing exactly where that money has gone so money laundering won't be an issue.0 -

Just because it doesn't spell it out like that in the legislation doesn't mean that the retailer doesn't need to take reasonable steps.
Without any kind of restrictions like this, it would be incredibly easy for people to launder money, ie: buy gift card with 'dirty' money; use gift card to purchase item; return item and ask for refund to debit card; receive 'clean' funds from a legitimate source (the retailer). This is definitely a reason, even if not the sole reason, why refunds are processed in such a way.0 -

There is something in the legislation, it's in the CRA 2015 section 20(16)If the consumer paid money under the contract, the trader must give the refund using the same means of payment as the consumer used, unless the consumer expressly agrees otherwise
The only way a refund can be made by a different method is if both trader and consumer agree to it.0
