I drew £100 yesterday and another £200 within 30 minutes and have had no problems.
I've been called by Egg within 24 hours of withdrawing £500 via ATM (quite reassuring really).

Just a simple "was it you?" was all I was asked.

I guess thats fair enough realy, its good to know they are keeping an eye on things realy...
  • I'd have to say that, second time around having the Egg Money card, it's been a lot better than the first. First time around the card was 'not authorised' in Sainsbury's for a weekly shopping and in a jeweller purchasing a not overly expensive gift for a birthday. Neither time with any explanation and when I called Egg they couldn't give me any indication as to why it happened. It was also 'declined' when I tried to buy something online and I'd no idea until I eventually called the retailer and was told they had no record of the sale going through despite the 'receipt emails'. I was pretty hacked off and closed the account because it was becoming unreliable. I'm not a huge spender on unknown websites or dodgy dealings, so I'd no idea why it was happening.

That all said, I've had the card since June this year again and it's been great - no problems at all, so I'm more than happy to use this as my main card...with my &MORE card as a backup...just in case :rolleyes2

It'll just be typical now if they scrap the cashback next March for their new year and I have to look for another good CB card :D

EGG money card is very notorious. If you use card 0.01 authorization purchase and address check done during mobile purchase or petrol purchase results in blocking of card. Also if you withdraw ur money from card it gets blocked. Also notoriously egg money blocks ur card every 15 days during normal purchase and you have to go through all this telephonic security checks before retailer lets you off with a goods.

Although its a very good card be clear of it if dont wanted to waste your time calling egg money customer service every week.

Thanks - this was very useful. My card was declined the other day when I tried to pay for my £2 shopping at Tesco. I had just applied for a mobile a few days before.
I both called and e-mailed Egg to ask what on earth was going on but they still left me clueless. I should've asked here first.
(They reactivated the card though, and I must say Egg have otherwise been great)

Iv got an Egg card and never had any of these problems!

It sounds like your a dodgy geezer and that Egg are onto you:confused: have you ever done anything iffy with the card? They wouldnt keep blocking your card without good reason. They want you to use it after all;)

The Egg card is great for being able to move money around. The 1% cashback is not as good as Cap 1 but it makes up for this in so many ways!

I guess my credit rating is much better than yours and also have mortgage and big salary. But its there habit of troubling new customer, whenever you buy a even a pay as you go mobile online from reputed retailer like carphone warehouse they block ur card because CPW takes a 0.01 authorization before forwarding a application . Even this is the case with fuelstations. I am now much more happy with my 4% capitalone credit card and cancelled this grumpy, dodgy Eggmoney card.

While I don't think it was very nice of the poster to suggest you may be a 'dodgy geezer' I also feel it's inappropriate for you to presume that someone else has a bad credit history etc.

But anyway... having worked for a credit card company, what you've explained sounds like it could have happened on pretty much any credit card. It sounds like the payment was referred, i.e. the retailer is asked to phone up their authorisation centre to get a manual authorisation code - something that's not uncommon to happen.

In order to do this the cardholder has to be there either in person or over the phone (in case they ask questions to verify their identity etc). If it's an online transaction this obviously can't be done.

What usually happens then is that because there wasn't any contact from the retailer it'll temporarily (for a few days) place a referral status on that card, which means if you attempt another transaction that retailer will also be asked to phone up.

This will carry on until 1 of 3 three things happen:

    1. The referral status expires
    2. A retailer calls up and the transaction is authorised
    3. You contact the card issuer who checks the transactions then removes the status from the card

It probably has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they 'test' the card first with authorisation for £0.01 - a lot of retailers do this including Amazon. A much more likely reason is that a lot of phones could have been purchased fraudulently around that sort of time and so transactions of that nature are more likely to seem suspicious.

Egg money is a realy useful card to have.

Its handy for sending money from credit card accounts to your current account like people have been saying.

I have a Visa, Mastercard and an Amex and also My Visa Debit and My Egg (Mastercard) which I think of as a bank account but with a Mastercard debit card. They both have same limit £1100 overdraft and £1100 Egg limit. I wouldn't have any more limit as thats not realy what the Egg is about.

A realy handy card, keep hold of it and it shouldnt cause many credit issues if you keep a low limit like £1100..........
  • My OH and I have Egg Money cards since November and they were blocked a few times and our transactions refused. First time it was blocked when I tried to pay for holiday. I can understand that they decided it's unusual transaction and large sum but second time I couldn't pay for onlice grocery shopping in Tesco. It wasn't large sum and I used the card before to pay in Tesco.

Every time it happens my husband has to call them. I find it annoying and waste of time. I can't talk to them, because I'm only second card holder. We never had such problems with any other card.

I'm keeping the card in case we need it as a mule.
