Why is Sky charging £10 for Sky+ on my bill?

Hi,

Recently I have noticed Sky has started charging me £10 for Sky + service.

I only have broadband and talk deal with them. About two years ago I had Sky TV which I cancelled.

I use the Sky box for normal TV channels (i.e. free channels) as my understanding was this is not chargeable.

Why is Sky suddenly charging £10 for this?

Does your box still pause/record TV?
    If so thats the charge

Yes it does. Is there a way to just use the box without this functionality?

I don't want to pay £10 for something like that.

Yes you don't need to pay if you don't want to use the record/pause etc features. It will still function as a Freesat From Sky box.

Skys list price for the Sky Plus functions ( pause, record live tv , etc) is £10 a month , but free with a Sky TV subscription, so if you cancelled Sky TV 2 years ago, you could consider it lucky they didn't start charging immediately for Sky +
You could get a Freesat + box, that does the same sort of thing without the £10/month fee
