    Sorry about the job.
As you say though at least you have enough coming in to cover most things.

  • Happy Sunday all!

Still feeling a bit down in the dumps. Only 4 weeks until my travel with work stops and I need to get my own car etc again. Wish I could hibernate for a few months until it's all blown over!

Managed to convince my mum to do a car boot sale with me in a couple of weeks time. Hopefully a little bit comes in from that. I also have a couple of things I can perhaps sell on ebay - a camera, a gopro and pair of hand-painted shoes (that I LOVE so much, but sometimes a sacrifice is needed for the greater good!) Here's hoping I can get another £50 or so from those things.
Motivation is sorely lacking, even though I know I need to do lots in a short space of time.

In other news, my mum took me to a charity shop today where I got a pair of hillwalking trousers for Iceland, for the massive sum of £1.24, which she paid. That's saved me about £20 on my holiday shopping requirements so I am pretty happy. Was debating cancelling the trip entirely - it's all non refundable though so I'm not sure that's really the right thing to do, paying money for no reward! Just need to do it all as savvy as possible :-)

  • Today was a decent day. I am back down south for work, so I have "acquired" some shampoo and shower gel...it will all mount up when I am back home, not needing to buy any for a while!

Also keeping hold of the tiny milks and tea bags, they will go nicely in my case for the holiday, not wasting money on milk/tea etc - when I can be spending it on experiencing the places we are visiting!

Moneysaving and debt clearing wise, I found 20p in the bottom of my bag which I will definitely be popping in my moneybox. Total money earned/saved this month is £661.20
Aiming for £600 again in May, fingers crossed!

Hope you're all doing fantastic, about to go stalk some diaries, incognito style

  • Evening folks

Another low day today - mainly because of work but also because my bills came out (I get paid every 4 weeks, not every month so it's different dates each month) and I was £190 short. I moved money from holiday fund to cover the shortfall but I really need my lodger to get his rear end in gear and pay up for this month, it's a bit of a drain!

Got a valuation for my camera though and it should get me about £70. Not much in comparison to the £450 I paid for it but to be honest, my phone takes decent enough pictures, I'm sure I will manage without it!

Work was really tiresome today. I manage about 15 people, and for some reason they all had some issue with me or my management style today, it was one thing after another and I just didn't have a minute. Days like that happen I suppose, not a great deal I can do, just grin and bear it!

I did get free food at work which is always a plus, swings and roundabouts haha

Been a little forgetful when it comes to my diary, even though I know coming here every day motivates me!

No updates other than I got an additional £41 in my wages yesterday, put over to the fund!

Lodger still hasn't paid up so I have had to use some of the stash to make sure the mortgage was paid. Hopefully he will get the cash owed to me soon so I can replace what's gone out.

This is the story of my life this last few years...have some great news followed almost immediately by news that results in the opposite. DO overtime and earn £200, fridge goes kaput and I need to spend £200 on a new one. I feel like I am a living sketch show :-)

Onwards and upwards. £41 is a good start to my month for may. Let's see if I can turn this bad boy around!

    Must start being more disciplined.
    Here's my aims for today

    Grocery Shopping - under £35
Decide on a date for car boot sale to be done within next 4 weeks

Only 2 things. Not too tough right?

Shame about the lodger. Are you advertising for a new one or waiting until current one leaves?

So infuriating about the guarantor loan. No chance of getting the money back from so called ex friend or are they still a friend?

I agree with giving the £20 a month if it happens to your son to manage. We gave our daughters allowances from their early teens to manage and they credit that with managing to stay out of debt through uni and now adults with mortgages, jobs and families don't have debt. You cannot expect youngsters who have had no experience of managing money to get to 18 and suddenly have to manage student loan payments, salaries etc and have credit available without getting in a mess. It is a life skill like cooking, swimming or driving a car. Start off small. I do hope you manage to do your hiking holiday. It sounds fab.

Lodger agreement says that I should give 4 week's notice so I have a signed agreement to say that if he is unable to find work within that time, he will move out on the 1st June. He has also agreed and signed to say that he will not receive deposit back if he remains in arrears - I have the deposit in a separate account and will just retain.

To be honest, I need to look for someone else, the money (when it comes in) is an absolute godsend!

I wish I could get the money back. I still am casual friends with her - I feel that if I lose the plot then I will never see another penny. Hoping that karma means it will all work out in the end. Fingers crossed!

Young lad has made a good decision - he's asked that I keep the £20 a week aside until after the holiday, so that he has his own spending money. Takes a little pressure off me from that sense, I don't need to do all the trinket shopping now!
