Low disc space on recovery drive!!!

Hi
I keep getting a message on my laptop saying
"Low Disk Space on HP recovery drive D click here to free space"
but when i click it it only gives me the recycle bin, if I click on more options and try to clean up on system restore (to delete all but last back up) but nothing happens!
If I try uninstall a programme I don't use it says
"Setup.exe has stopped working & A problem caused the programme to stop working correctly. Windows will close the programme and notify you if a solution is available" nothing ever happens!
Any ideas?
