Housing benifit entitlement

I started work in 2013 part time as I am single with a child I earned 112 a wk paid every 2 wk plus tax and child tax credit since 2014 I have been paying nearly full rent and full council tax , I have paid back nearly all the benefits I was given as HB said I owed under payments over payments , I argued this and said I should be entitled to my benefit as I work 16 hours and only get paid fornightly , I now work 18 hours a wk and am on minimum wage however I still have to pay nearly full rent and full council tax , every time my benefit is corrected I then get letters asking for over payments back, also there was a mistake in my wages meaning I got under paid off employer , it was corrected a month later I explained to HB what had happened and why I had extra money in my pay but was told that didn't matter they saw it as extra money in my pocket so I had to pay the HB back, I don't know what I am entitled to because no matter what advice I get HB say different , I am now back to paying nearly full rent some wks only getting 6 pound HB , is this correct ? anyone help ?

You say you were under paid by your employer but when you told HB what the money was for you ended up with an over payment? But you would have been entitled to less HB if you had been paid the correct amount anyway.

The best thing you can do is put all your details into this benefits calculator and it will tell you what you should be getting.

    Beat me to it Poppy!

I was going to suggest that. An alternative calculator here

And/or go into your local CAB/advice centre with your paperwork and get them to have a look. They may be able to give you a benefits check and will have knowledge of how your local council works
