If he was the one who bought it salvage and got it repaired then he'll be able to provide receipts from the bodyshop that did the work. That would give you an idea of what was done. If he can't then walk away.

Go on Car Giant web site and see how much a straight car would cost against one on V-car register - you may find it is not 38% cheaper.
