The performance typically isn't very good. Its easy but you can get better gains from selected regional or global funds0 -

I've long enough ahead that I'm able and prepared to be a little bolder.
Of course it's an entirely valid approach, but not one I want to take for now.0 -

            Funds or Investment Trusts ultimately.
But of course one fund may have 20 holdings, another may have the entire index etc.0 - 
            I know I have FAR too many, but will slowly winnow that down with experience and increasing confidence.0

            You could easily get along fine with just the one fund...Vanguard Lifestrategy which will hold over 15,000 individual holdings from all around the world and deliver a decent return at low cost. Just select the most appropriate level to enable you to sleep at night when the markets head south...job done!0
