Credit Card Fraud with on line supermarkets

I watched your appearance on GMTV this morning about stress
WHAT CHECKS ARE DONE BY THE LARGE "ON-LINE SHOPPING DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR" SUPERMARKETS WHEN EMPLOYING STAFF TO HANDLE CREDIT CARD DETAILS"?
Not only is it stressful to have your credit card details stolen and the thief runs up thousands of pounds worth of debt on your card but they also have your home address and you now live in fear of being burgled.
I am now afraid to use my credit card on the internet, knowing there are dishonest people waiting to steal your card details.
I know a lot of people that this has happened to and what is the supermarkets doing about it!

It's relative easy to make online shopping safe.
If you think about it nothing is lost until fraudulently obtained goods are handed over the the thief.
Here are simple solutions to reduce many, but not all types of card fraud.

If you can render your personal information worthless to crooks, then why not your card details, passbook, cheque book etc, etc. (Same Concept)0 -
Trish,
As with any delivery to your home or mail order company you are relying on supermarkets to do Criminal Record checks on potential employees and their honesty.
If you are really worried about using a credit card on the the internet, apply for a new card with a relatively small limit (say £500). Never take this card out of the house and only use it online.
Then if your card details are compromised, any thief cannot get away with very much and you can also be very confident in your ability to prove that your details must have been stolen when you have to demonstrate this to the card company.
R.Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

You can take reasurrance from the fact that banks work together to detect fraud, and (for example) if a supermarket delivery driver had 10 calls one day, then a couple weeks later all those 10 people had fraud on their cards, it would be a simple process for the banks to recognise that as fraud and refund the money.
The bit about them getting your address seems a bit over the top. Anyone can get your address details from looking in the phone book or walking past your house. Without knowing any other information about you I can't see this making you more likely to be burgled, the only thing possibly to worry about would be if you've got anything valuable on display which the delivery driver might see while he's unloading your shopping.0 -
You know a lot of people? How many?
Most of the people I know who had problems with their credit cards details stolen had it done by going shopping normally in shops, or restaurants....that's why when I go to the shops I try to pay cash if possible. Then again some people still don't shred their statements and how many thought that someone had stolen their card details while someone in the family had borrowed the credit card whithout saying anything....people working in banks selling your details.........
I have been doing my shopping online for a few years now, and not only for groceries, and had no problems (that's when I get done because I just said that:rolleyes: ). Nothing is 100% secure, you can only try to minimise the risks, and, as rafter said, get a low credit limit CC. and check your accounts online regularly, as soon as you see any suspicious transactions freeze your account.
