Might as well see if I had Halifax PPI...

Reading and hearing testimonies of people who received compensation for being sold PPI after not realising they had it in the first place, I filled in Halifax’s online form and submitted it.
I’ve received a 12-sided A4 “Payment Protection Insurance Questionnaire” through the post. I can’t answer most of the questions because of a lack of knowledge.
Given that my enquiry is completely speculative at this stage and I’ve no grounds for complaint, how can I find out for sure if I even had PPI?
I opened a credit card account and a student current account and overdraft with the Halifax during the 1990s and if I do have a PPI complaint, it would be from these sources.
As I feel I’ve a 10/1 chance that I have a claim and no paper work or records, what would the best way to proceed?
