All new to me this Vista stuff, only got my new Dell 531 last wekk.

Problem is that when I click on the safely remove hardware icon in the system tray it displays the internal HDD,and DVD drives and not items plugged in to card reader ports?

Anyone any ideas on this ?

The cards etc you put into the card reader slots aren't considered hardware as far as I know, it should be safe just to take them out.

I've had the same problem - it shows me my USB pen but not my mobile phone USB even though my phone tells me to safely remove hardware before unplugging. I'm glad to know it's not just me.

Just googled it and got a link to this site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931619

Thanks for the replies, what I don't understand is why the C and D drives, and the optical drives would appear in this list as they are non removeable.
Its as if the PC thinks its a laptop and not the desktop that it is.
Looks like Bill needs to get a service pack out PDQ, could be me of course.

Could be, as far as I can remember I've only ever seen removable devices show up on my list. I'll check tonight though now!
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die
