Simple insurance for a laptop?

My boyfriend is planning to buy a laptop soon. A really expensive high end gaming laptop. It'll be the biggest purchase we've ever made, and we're worried about something happening to it. Accidental breakage by dropping it is probably the most likely scenario, he has a disability that can cause occasional muscle spasms - falls and dropping stuff.

So with that in mind, we're interested in getting it insured. Neither of us is very familiar with insurance though. We've looked at a few like schutzklick, the insurer offered by the retailer, and their T&Cs seem to have a few odd loopholes.

Like Excess? If we make a claim we have to pay them money, before they'll pay us money? How does that work, that doesnt sound reasonable. They also seem to cover accidental damage, theft and loss. But apparently not theft caused by carelessness like leaving it unattended. That sounds like an accident to me?

I'm pretty paranoid about a scenario where something happens to the laptop, and the insurance company finds some obscure loophole in their rules to justify not paying out. We'd like some advice on this topic before proceeding.

Can anyone recommend a good simple/flexible insurer?
We're basically looking for "They pay out if anything bad happens to it." simple common sense without loopholes. i suppose everyones definition of common sense is different though.

Any advice is appreciated

Gadget insurance will come with more exclusions than your home contents

Regarding excess fees; this is perfectly normal & standard with any insurance policy. You make a claim, you pay the first £x of that

Regarding theft / accidental loss, the scenario of leaving the laptop in a known location & it going missing would be an unattended theft, rather than accidental loss, as you *knew* where it was last left and therefore it cannot be "lost". Many gadget insurance policies will exclude this.

Your best bet would be to insure it through your contents IMO, and ensure that if the value of the unit exceeds the single article limit on your contents insurance that you specify the laptop on the policy.
