Aol emails on Blackberry Curve 9320 after update

My husband has a Blackberry Curve 9320 and has been receiving his aol emails on it. Until the last update.
Now the app on the phone keeps asking for validation of the account, he puts in the password and it says that the password and/or user name is incorrect. We KNOW they are both correct. He has tried removing the account and re-adding it.
Is there solution to this please?
Is there another email app to download or something like that, and would that even solve it? If so how is it done please.
I should say I am used to Android, and my husband has never added apps to this phone, so neither of us really know what we are doing on this, and he won't let me try without knowing how.
His current intention is to take it to Carphone Warehouse as they own aol, and see if they can help, but we are beginning to think that they want to get rid of aol emails with all the changes they have been making lately.
Oh, and please don't suggest a different smartphone, the idea of him having a touchscreen phone is a nightmare. I know he will have to eventually, but the longer he can wait the better
Thank you for any help you can give.

Just to eliminate a whole raft of possibilities - can he log in to his AOL email on a computer, via the web?0

Are you writing about the built-in application or a third party application?
The built in application offers you the option of entering the details manually if simply entering email address and password don't work; https://help.aol.co.uk/articles/how-do-i-use-other-email-applications-to-send-and-receive-my-aol-mail0 -
Thank you, pretty sure it is the built in application. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

It should go without saying that he needs to have Blackberry Internet Service to receive emails.0 -
I've got an old Blackberry, and it's got a web interface to set up the email accounts.
And I've found that whenever you try to make any changes to the setting, for example changing the password, editing the account never works.
You have to delete the account and set it up anew with the new password.
It's a very clunky interface.
Mind you, I think my Blackberry is even older than that one.
Another possiblity is that AOL has increased the security and won't allow the usual password in what it regards as an insecure app.
So you might need to go on the AOL webmail site and generate a special password for the Blackberry app.0
