Viewing a house and having the vendor show us round

Options
Hello,

We have booked a house viewing and the estate agent said that the vendor will show us around. Is this normal? I have so many questions that I wanted to ask the estate agent that I will just feel awkward asking the vendor. Also, will the homeowner be vetting us and choose not to sell to us?

Thanks in advance :)

Estate agents know nothing about the house, the neighbours, the garden, the parking, the street, the noise etc etc

    Much better with the vendor.

But will they be 100% truthful?

More truthful than an estate agent

It's certainly been normal when I've been involved with buying selling. I always show people round when we are selling, and you are correct, it gives a chance to see the possible buyers and weed out those you won't sell to.

    Yes, it's quite commonplace.

Well, it makes more sense to ask the vendor rather than someone who doesn't know much about the property, but up to you.
will the homeowner be vetting us and choose not to sell to us?
Maybe! But more likely they'll be picking whoever offers them most money.

The vendor is going to know more about the house than the EA, so you're more likely to get answers to your questions anyway.

Truthful? Well, no less truthful than an EA.

It's not that unusual to have them show you round rather than an EA.

The vendor is always the one who decides who to sell to, whether they show you round or not.

I was shown round by owners. Not truthful so beware.

Any questions and answers take with a pinch of salt.

You ask 'what are the neighbours like?' They aren't going to say terrible even if they are.

I hate owners showing round. I don't show people round, what the hell am I paying the EA for if I did?

I always prefer to meet the sellers and have them show us round personally rather than open viewings or EA appiintments.
