EGG BT charge and credit limit

For new EGG card holders who incur the BT fee remember to leave £50.00 available credit to soak up that fee ... or you may be charged an 'over credit limit fee' etc... etc...

ie if your limit is £6000 then only BT £5950.. The fee will be added to your first statement so if you have alraedy transferred the whole credit limit online - transfer £50.00 back - quickly... :o

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
And the quickest way to add that £50 back is to make a debit card payment. AFAIK payments made by 2PM on a working day are credited to the account on the next working day.

I am surprised more people haven't read this thread  as I suspect quite a few will be caught, so I have changed the title..
  • Phew!! Just transferred £50 today to reach them tomorrow - my first payment is due to them tomorrow so that's good! I transferred the full £5.5k on Weds 18th May. ...I was wondering when this £50 charge would be levied.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Could have caught me! Hopefully the transaction will go through in time.

  • From the Egg web site:

"The debit card payment will be taken from your debit card account on the day you make the request. The payment will show on your Egg Card recent transactions on the next working day, providing you make your request before 2pm on a working day"

Now since i've just made this request on BH Monday. I could get stung :-< Does anyone know what the fee would be for going above my limit and how would such a fee affect my stooze?

I would send EGG a secure message from their website or ring them and expalin what has happened. EGG charge £20.00 for going over the agreed limit. In worse case senario, if you breach the T&C's they can take away any promotions ie 0% deal.

Hopefully it will go through in time but if it dosn't and you have advised them they may be more sympathetic.
  • Ok just spoke to Egg. Their statement date is 17th of every month and they require payment by the 1st of the next month.

If anyone did a BT on or before the 17th of May then Egg will DD you the minimum payable and the BT fee (£50) - that should be today (31st May)

However I did my BT on the 18th of May therefore my balance as of 17th was £0 - nothing payable this month (May).

What this means is that by BT'ing on the 18th I get a full month and a half before I need to make my first minimum payment. My first minimum payment will be taken on the 30th June at which point they will also take the BT fee.

In essence by BT'ing on the 18th not the 17th I get an extra month ( well month - 1day) before I need to make my first payment.

Just something to be aware of.

...Just for completeness I made a one-off payment to Egg yesterday (BH Monday) to cover the BT fee which I thought would be taken today. Even though the payment was made before 2pm on a BH the monies *had* reached my egg account by this morning. The web site says only payments made by 2pm on a working day will be credited the next working day - evidently false.

Glad you got it sorted RD. :) I wonder how many people won't realise? :o I think Egg should make peole aware of how the BT fee will be applied but hey - I suppose it is more money to them..
