I'll never forget a female manager flying through the checkout in Sainsbury's Nantwich Cheshire swirling through and grabbing and removing the whole pile of bags to put on the next checkout as my late elderly father was about to pack his shopping. I protested and she snarlingly retorted to go and find some more myself. Vile!

My family had shopped and spent a lot regularly there for years! I never shopped at Sainsbury's again!

My mother opened an ISA with them and paid for ID at the Post Office in order to open the account which they were meant to return as it was hers and was still valid for 12 months. They destroyed it instead.

I've had Gas and Electric with them and switched to them via CEC on here. They messed up my switch after my contract with them ended causing me a lot of hassle and inconvenience and to miss out on a good energy deal.

I hope Sainsbury's go to the wall. They deserve to.

its all down to customers deserting Sainsbury's, and going to Aldi and Lidl.

    That's me!:D

I can take in Sainsbury's on a round trip to Aldi. I used to do about 50% of my shopping in each, now only go to Sainsbury's about once a month.

I find those till spits (odd word ..is that because they spit them out??) irritating as they make the assumption that everyone shops weekly and on the same day. So mine often expire unused. They're never so generous that it would encourage me to make a special trip there. The only thing that pleases me is the 25% off wine. I get Nectar points on that.:D

I have a Nectar card and a Sainsbury's credit card and we get points from eBay. Basically though that's just because we can.

I also have a M&S card for good high street currency and Post Office card for purchases abroad.

So I'll use anything that suits me. I'm not about to be taken in by their silly marketing ploys. I think all the big supermarkets are in trouble to some extent. They deserve to be. They've been ripping off customers for far too long.

I've shopped at Sainsburys for years but have become increasingly dissatisfied with them of late. Our local store has been overhauled with a poor and frustrating layout, many basic price items have disappeared in favour of more "upmarket" expensive products, they frequently run out of stocks (especially if you order online for delivery) and there are more self-service checkouts than staffed ones.

The till-spit coupons aren't especially generous nor are the MOCs you receive through the post. These assume you shop there every week and will spend £60/£80 every time.

Now they come up with this daft idea to overhaul the Nectar scheme. Yes, it may well need an overhaul but what they're about to trial on the IoW won't be rewarding loyal customers at all. Instead it will be dictating what THEY want YOU to buy. If you don't want to participate by using an app or email to choose products, then you'll get no points at all!

Sorry, if this is rolled out nationwide I shall no longer be a customer, loyal or otherwise. And I'll be switching my Sainsburys credit card to another one that offers cash back on purchases.

I'm with you there, though for as long as Sains send me vouchers for between 10% & 20% off my shop when I spend not too much I will keep using them, especially when I try to take advantage of relevant offers at the same time.

Sainsburys have been doing this with me for about two years IIRC and over the past nine months or year Tesco have tried too.
Tesco though try to make me spend too much at one go so they often go unused.

Supermarkets have been ripping us off for years and it's mainly Aldi & Lidl that have shown up the sometimes huge differences in prices that have proved that.
No wonder profits at (for example) Tesco are so huge, over a billion pounds last year according to what I read.

This is another cost cutting exercise by Sainsbury's. Who has the time and/or will remember to select goods every week on which to earn points?

That pretty well sums up my experience of Sainsbury's, too. Hopeless stock control, a home delivery service which seems incapable of getting your order right, endless queues at the checkouts, only average product quality at above average prices, poor quality meat, inflated prices on almost everything, short dated till spits that assume you shop every few days, a 'reward' scheme that is no longer generous and threatens to become onerous to use...

Someone at the top of this store needs to take a quiet walk around an Aldi or even a Morrisons.

We use our Nectar points on Expedia vouchers and have taken a couple of holidays using them. I'll be disappointed if our points collection dries up and we lose that ability (through low points rather than no option). The most annoying thing for us is both myself and my wife have separate Nectar accounts (from before we met...) and it seems a faff to combine them...! Not sure how it will work for us regards offers if we do not combine accounts.

We can't get everything we want from Aldi and find some items better value in Sainsburys. Aldi is ok for some things but who has the time to go to 2 supermarkets per trip?

I take a different view to other commentators on here. I've suspected for a while that Sainsburys are slowly making the scheme less attractive as a prelude to closing it. Why they don't just close it I don't know, but as Sainsburys are obsessed with not upsetting customers perhaps they want to wean customers off it slowly. Look at the evidence.
A few year's ago they savagely halved the earning from 2 points per £1 spent to 1 point. Staff were brainwashed into telling customers that they'd actually be better off because there'd be lots more random bonus vouchers: yes there were , for many items I didn't want! 18 month's ago they sneakily locked bonus vouchers to the card they were bought with, so vouchers couldn't be passed on to friends and family.
Last year they closed the My Points scheme. Also last year, they scrapped the Spring points double up week with no explanation. I save all my points for that promotion, it's tremendous value, and fortunately the Autumn one went ahead as normal.
Now this latest tightening of the screw. "Trialling" indicates they want to know whether customers like it. Come on Sainsburys, we didn't come down with the last shower; we'll get it whether we like it or not.
Ok we can shop elsewhere but I happen to love shopping in Sainsburys and they have everything I want. LIdl's a long way and I'm tired of buying fruit and veg from Aldi that's gone mouldy the day after. Sadly I shop more and more in Morrisons.

This is simply to save Sainsburys money. Most people will get either no points, or far fewer points. A lot of families spend over £100 a week on their grocery shopping (I've seen a comment on here from someone who spends £200), yet if they only get 10 points on five items, they will lose out on at least £50 worth of points.

We do the bulk of our shop at Aldi or Lidl, and use Sainsbury for the items we can't get in the others. If this is rolled out nationwide, we'll be going back to Tesco for those items, and get the points on our clubcard.

I hope the Isle of Wight shoppers show Sainsbury the folly of this.

I agree. The Waitrose scheme was just clumsy. It's typical of the badly managed Sainsbury's that they are looking to emulate it, instead of attending to the real cause of their demise - high prices for very average quality produce and serpentine queues at the checkouts.
Me three. Waitrose gave up on their unpopular "my offers" scheme so why does Sainsburys want to repeat it with the added annoyance of an app pinging away, using your data and battery? If they push this through to the rest of the country then it's clearly the start of the end of Nectar. It will fuel further flight to the discount chains and Sainsbury's market will crumble to be mostly people without any other store as near.
