Heater broke after a week and a half

Hi, I bought a small halogen heater on ebay a week and a half ago. It worked fine. Then this morning I went to move it and it fell off the settee onto the carpet - a small, low impact fall which I wouldn't have expected to break it. There is a grate over the elements - nothing poked through them - it just fell a short distance onto carpet. However the impact of this tiny fall caused the top element to come loose. When I turned it on it shorted out and went off with a bang.
Sure it was only cheap, but to me that is a faulty item - it is too fragile if you can't knock it over without breaking it. I contacted the seller and they say as I broke it there is no refund. Is that basically the deal or do I have any rights here does anyone know?
Thanks!

It is difficult to understand if the item is fit for purpose without knowing the details.
My wine glass can break when knocked over but my bottle of wine can handle the impact. One is clearly more fragile than the other and I wouldn't dream of ringing John Lewis about the broken wine glass.
IMO your heater was working fine until you knocked it over. Therefore it is now broken rather than faulty.0 -
You are really looking for accidental damage cover.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Your statutory rights are not affected.0

OP - you should change the misleading title to "I broke heater after a week and a half".0

Goods breaking easily isn't necessarily a fault. It all depends on the type of item and how much was paid for it and if it was cheap, it was probably because it was made of cheap parts.Goods to be of satisfactory quality
(1) Every contract to supply goods is to be treated as including a term that the quality of the goods is satisfactory.
(2) The quality of goods is satisfactory if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would consider satisfactory, taking account of—
(a) any description of the goods,
(b) the price or other consideration for the goods (if relevant),0 -
My daughter rolled off the sofa onto the floor and broke her arm when she was 3.
Maybe I should have claimed a SNAD..0 -

Be quite an adventure trying to take her back to where you got her for a return0
