Gutters and Fascias replacement costs

Options
Hello,

I need to get the gutters and fascias replaced on my house. I have a standard three bedroom semi-detached house with a hipped roof and a large conservatory at the back. The scaffold at the back over the conservatory will be fairly complicated. I'm going to get some quotes but could someone guide me as to how much is too much for this as I'm not in the market for being ripped off. I know the scaffolding is going to be expensive but I've been doing some research and it seems a reasonable cost for a three bed semi for scaffolding without a conservatory is £700 so if I double that to £1500 then I think that should be about right. So for the whole job I'm guessing around the £3,000 mark? Does that sound about right?

I paid 1k for 3-storey scaffolding of my semi (for soffits and fascias). Guttering is relatively cheap, but soffits can cost somewhat more. Do the soffits definitely need replacing?

I am assuming you are talking PVC.
  • Hello,

You can get a ballpark figure for the materials from somewhere like Wickes website:

    https://www.wickes.co.uk/Products/Building-Materials/Fascias+Soffits/Soffit-Boards/c/1000268

The major cost is always labour with these jobs. What will also make a big difference is if they're just capping, or are replacing existing woodwork.

I was quoted 2k for board repair and painting, and 1.5k for soffit/fascia capping and replacement guttering. I didn't believe any of the quoting companies were going to do a proper job for that money, so I did it myself.

It took me 6 full days to strip, treat, paint, and gutter! So much time waiting around for the paint between coats.

I've got cast iron gutters I think.
Total length is about 30ft front and 30ft back.

Without scaffolding it might be a pain to do myself with just a ladder.

Should I DIY and save money or get someone in.
If I get someone in I expect the ear ache about soffits need replacing as well which I don't want.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

I'd personally get scaffolding if you DIY. Only you can say if you're confident enough in your abilities. The guttering is quite simple if you use a guide line and take your time.

I've never had to replace fascias, but you have to figure that they are connected to the soffits.
