My wife bought herself a new Kindle Fire

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01J90O57K/ref=pe_3187911_189395841_TE_dp_1

and about 50% of the time when she switches it off with the power button it comes up asking if she wants to restart it in safe mode.

This NEVER happens when I switch it off doing exactly what she does.

Obviously we can't be doing the same thing but what are we doing differently and how can I stop it happening?

It shouldn't be restarting in Safe Mode at all, so it sounds like it is faulty. (I'd never even heard of Safe Mode for an Android-based unit ... are you meaning the Recovery Menu?).

When I turn off my Fire I press and hold the power button for 3-4 seconds and then it prompts me if I want to turn off. Is this the method your wife is using?

Just checked on my wifes 10" Fire and couldn't get any "Safe Mode", are you sure it's not a Windows tablet?

Why are you actually turning it off anyway? If it is a Fire tablet get one of the covers for it that turns off the screen and opens it again when it's opened up. In sleep mode the Fire tablets barely use any power at all.

Ahh, apologies but I've just found that the Fire does indeed have a "Safe Mode". When you hold down the power button and get the "Do you want to turn off your Kindle" message you can press and hold on the "OK" option which does give you a "Safe Mode" reboot option.

So your wife is holding the "OK" button rather than just tapping it. You still don't need to turn it off though.

I might be 72 years old but I do know what a Kindle Fire is.

It doesn't start in safe mode, it asks if she wants to restart it in safe mode.

    It only happens with her.

My wife does, after playing her game or reading her book she needs some way to make the screen go blank so that there is no light shining in the dark bedroom and wasting the battery.

There is a difference between putting it to sleep and turning it off. Just a quick press on the power switch puts it to sleep, a long press will bring up the "Do you want to turn off the device" message.

It wakes instantly from sleep whereas turning it off will force it to fully restart.

Have a look on Amazon at a cover for it, they have magnets built in to most that put it to sleep when closing and brings it back to life when the cover is opened.

Just close the cover. If you don't have a cover, then buy one. Faff over !
