Bank says they can't locate my Mortgage Account

I took out a mortgage with Cheshunt Building Society in 1990. The compnay was taken taken by Bristol & West in 1992 and then they were taken over by Bank of Ireland in 1997. I put in a PPI claim via Resolver to Bank of Ireland.

I have the original account number and documentation but Bank of Ireland have replied saying....."We are unable to locate a mortgage account for you. This is most likely because your mortgage account was closed before our computer records started. We are unable to assist you with your claim." !!

What is my next step ?
Thanks

    Get on with your life.

1 - most MPPI complaints are rejected anyway (even when documentation exists).
2 - you are talking 30 years ago.
3 - Even if they could locate your mortgage details, doesn't mean they could locate any information on insurances you may or may not have had. One of the reasons most MPPI complaints fail is that most MPPI is not built into the mortgage but standalone.
4 - Most mortgages in the UK are arranged by brokers/advisers. They dont tell the lender what insurance you bought.

The only possible step now is for you to shred this 28 year old documentation and so forget all about a complaint from three decades ago.

Does the documentation you have show that you even had PPI?

Most mortgage PPI was arranged through a broker...

    Sorry.

Ahh. So, you were not looking for constructive responses. You wanted someone with magical powers to give you a response you wanted to hear. Not the responses that are logical and sensible.

    As I said...sorry. :)

Seriously, what "help" were you expecting when your "complaint" has already fallen at the first hurdle?

You still haven't answered whether or not your documents show that you actually paid PPI?

What you need to do is to ring up the magic faerie hotline number (it's an 0800 number, so it's free), give them your details and they'll make your records from 28 or so years ago magically reappear.

Really, what 'help' are you expecting if there is no record of your mortgage?
