PPI on Mortgage PLEASE ADVISE

Hello - I am hoping someone will know what's best to do. I sent through a claim for PPI on an old mortgage I had with the Woolwich back in the early 1990's but have received a letter from Barclays talking about the mortgage from 2006 onwards with no mention of the earlier one.

Should I write and explain this to them? I saw some mention of 2005 and rules changing? Could anyone help me to understand what this is?

Thank you very much
Barbara

What does the letter say? Are they upholding the complaint or rejecting it? Is it a plevin refund only? (dates do apply on that one)

2005 is when insurance became regulated. Doesnt affect banks as they were members of an earlier body.
Could anyone help me to understand what this is?

There are too many scenarios for us to list. However, if you tell us what the letter says, we will have a better idea.

Why do you believe you were missold?

It's likely your PPI was pre regulation.

Well it's a bit late to make a claim on your PPI insurance policy now, if you were unable to work in the early 1990's and struggling to pay your mortgage you should have claimed on the policy at that time :rotfl: .

But i'm sure what you really mean is your making a complaint about the policy....

Hello yes making a complaint about the policy because when I took the mortgage out with the WoolwichI was very green, and they told me I needed to have the PPI even though I worked for my father's company. this was back in 1992-3 and when I completed the claim form on MSE I did list Woolwich mortgage which was taken over by Barclays when they purchased them. This letter however says:

Our records show that the PPI policy was sold to you on 11 November 2005. This is simply a re-mortgage amount. They are then asking for the employment status on 11 November 2005 and confirmation of my employment history from 11 July 2005 to 11 November 2005. It then goes on to ask for my take-home pay at this exact time period etc. etc. I have been paying the PPI for several years so I don't really understand why they are fixed on this specific date.

Also, they are listing on page one - 9 different mortgage account numbers and no further details.

I just wondered if there is something specific about this or if anyone else has ever dealt with a Barclays PPI complaint and has any advice for me.

    Thank you so much everyone

They appear to be saying that the PPI policy was bought in 2005. Not in 1992.

Your complaint would have stated a number of reasons why you thought it was missold. WIth them asking for additional information, it suggests there is an inconsistency in the information they hold vs what you are saying. Maybe the remortgage application was made in July (which would have stated your employment details) and it took until November to complete. So, they are checking whether there was a change of employment in that time.

It could suggest that the employment info they hold on you (based on your 2005 application) differs from your complaint and that is what they are seeking to clarify.

The fact they are asking this info indicates they have not found any failure so far. If they had, they wouldnt be asking for the info and would just pay out.

thank you - it's most odd because I was employed at the same job from 2000 to 2011 so no idea why they are looking at that date specifically but I just wondered if I should write to them and ask them to please include the Woolwich mortgage as they took this over when they purchased the building society.
