Do these cheaper dealing companies still send paper certificates?
If you want to pay extra they can get you a certificate so you can look after it yourself and not hold the share in an account with them ; but that will cost a fee (not to mention causing extra cost or delay or both when it is time to sell).0 -
I guess it might be time for me to change.

Also, have a play with SnowMan's most excellent platform charges spreadsheet.Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

hi
At the moment i am looking to do 1-3 trades per months with values from £50-£100 per trade
You are better off opening up a CFD or spreadbetting account and opening/ closing positions (ie. trading) with position sizes of 1 point which will effectively give you what you want for a much lower fee.
With spreadbetting you can trade for no charge at all other than a small buy/ offer spread which should meet all your requirements and be the most cost effective way of placing the types of trades you want.0 -

It's protected by the Dutch Investor Protection Scheme, which protects you up to !!!8364;20,000. But Degiro also uses a separate custodian entity which holds your assets (shares, cash etc) which is completely segregated from the assets of Degiro. So if Degiro were to go under, your investments etc would still be safe. (Check the Degiro website for more info).
Could it be like Iceland where they stuck 2 fingers up to foreign investors who had lost money, preferring to look after their own?
Wheras Britain bailed them out.
Degiro also lends out your shares to hedge funds to short them, which exposes you to counterparty risk.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

It is safe and secure. But gives no advice which I do not think you want.
Withdrawing money is a little involved, you send them an email and they BACS it to your nominated account.
Its only slightly more time consuming than clicking a button
I just save a message to word document with x-o email address at the top. payments@x-o.co.uk
Then all I have to do is click on their email address to bring up a new email message, copy and paste my withdraw all cash message to it, and click send. All done in a few seconds - don't even need to log into my account. And since I am copying it from a saved document I know I have got all the details right.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

I am tempted to go with Interactive Investor.
Why does it only compare 5?
The likes of X-O seldom appear on comparison sites because they don't pay them commission.
But they still appear on here even though they don't pay commission

They're not very competitive on their dealing costs (assuming non-OIECs), and they're not very competitive on their platform charge.
Would be interested to understand why you chose HL.Personal Responsibility - Sad but True
