    OK. Your defence is
    1. You paid
    2. You have the receipt
    3. The ticket machine is clearly faulty as there are no number plates in the UK that have a single character Registration number and the machine either misregistered the number or should not accept a partial entry if a driver makes a mistake.

If you have a further appeal, make these points or be sure to make them if taken to court.

Seems to be managed by Completely Retail.

Complain to them explaining that as it is so expensive to park you will no longer be able to afford to shop there.
Tell them that you have spread the word amongst your family and friends too.
Hopefully you can show them receipts for your shopping there, and ask them to cancel the ticket.
How about complaining to the actual shops that you used?

It was only when I received their letter in return saying the charge still stood because I did not have the proper number plate entered in on my ticket that realised the number plate was indeed not correct and there was only a letter B in the space for a number plate.

I honestly don't know how it happened...
    We do!

Retail Park - Menai Shopping Centre.
What happened when you complained to the Store Manager(s) and also the managing agents who run the place, saying you and your other Mum friends and children are now going to boycott the place as it isn't safe for your wealth for families to be penalised for shopping in a place where the ticket machines are known to have Excel's usual fault.

Also make a complaint to your MP and to Trading Standards (TS), showing them the court transcript above (the QQ case) and saying Excel are penalising local shoppers for a known, repeated, presumably generic fault in their own P&D machine system.

DO NOT ignore this, do the complaints listed above, using the transcript of the QQ case as evidence for your MP and TS (see also the 'letter P' case - it mirrors your own). Forget the fact it's a different car park. The machines are the same, the parking firm the same, the facts are the same.

Are you up for publicity? Report this to your local newspaper, again showing them the previous Excel court case transcript and the Blogs from the Prankster - and NOT saying ''I was on auto pilot'' or distracted, nor suggesting for one minute that this was caused by you. It wasn't. You would NOT have input the letter 'B' any more than those others put in 'QQ' or 'P'.
am I too late after going through the appeals process?
Not at all, you would win this in court, as you can see. A life experience to tell your children, if it happens (no CCJ and no risk to your finances, you either win or lose and there are no huge costs, and you would win).

I hope your MP is robust, are they one of those present at this debate (please watch all of it):

Read all about this and be informed, and be confident when complaining to your MP and TS and the shopping centre themselves. This is NOT ON. Be heard.

I am very grateful for all your help and after reading the countless cases on this site about unjustified tickets I decided NOT to pay mine. I have never done anything like this but was completely incensed by the injustice for so many.
I got the first letter again from Excel entitled "Notice of Intended Court Proceedings" and ignored it. Today I received a letter from Debt Recover Plus and was planning on just ignoring it too but the last line of the letter is a little scary - claiming that the operator took someone to court in November 2015 and won. I am sure that again this is just a scare tactic but wanted to see what you all thought about it.
Can you please also tell me what I might expect next?
Thank you again in advance for all your help!

see post #4 of the NEWBIES FAQ sticky thread , and ignore

only come back if you receive a formal LBC or an MCOL from Northampton CCBC within 6 years

if anything other than debt collector letters is to happen , its those last two

referencing the BEAVIS case doesnt mean its a slam dunk for any parking company and DRP are economical with the truth , deliberately so as a scare tactic

Did you complain to the shopping centre management?

Did you complain to the stores you visited?

What response did you get from your MP?

What did Trading Standards have to say?

Please confirm that you are taking notice of the advice being given freely.

I contacted my MPs office and after speaking to them on the phone sent them a very detailed email explaining my situation and included all the information I have gleaned here about what other MPs are doing, including links. Very disappointingly I didn't received a thing back. I will follow up with them as it's been ample time that they should have sent a response.

I also sent an email to the "support" section on the Completely Retail site. Again, no response. If someone knows a better email I can send my letter through to I will happily send it on again.

I didn't see anything about contacting trading standards but I am very happy to do so. I have written countless letters now and told my story to anyone who will listen to try to move things forward. Do trading standards care anything about the bogus "appeals" website or would they just be concerned with the car park operator? Unfortunately I think most people feel sorry but aren't hugely interested as it hasn't happened to them - YET!

The last paragraph in post #15 mentioned it.

    Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

Please do what was already advised and a bit more robustly.

Sending an email to 'support' got no reply, so did you phone the Retail Park Management or go in person to a few Store Managers brandishing the PCN and saying you are going to vote with your feet unless they can cancel this utter scam?

Use the words and transcripts already given to you, not write your own. This should have been easy to cancel, given the circs and the previous transcripts about Excel's PDT machines failures, just like in your case.

This was never about telling your story, it's about showing the evidence that this is endemic with Excel's machines, by all accounts.

Not 'telling your story' not suggesting you were distracted.

Saying toyour MP and to the Retail Park Managers and the Store Manager(s): LOOK WHAT THESE MACHINES DO TO PEOPLE - LOOK HOW IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE AND PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DRAGGED TO COURT, AND WON - PLEASE CANCEL THIS AS I AM ABOUT TO GO TO THE LOCAL PAPER AND TRADING STANDARDS.

If you are not robust enough now you will need to fight a claim in court.
