    argos is wanting xmas staff

My OH has been for an interview there today for Xmas work, he should hopefully hear next week. They had a recruitment evening and about 34 people turned up. He said he felt old, but it proved that he was more educated/experienced as the others, as he won all the challenging tasks they was given! Lets hope thats enough to get him these extra hours.

  • CV's now in at Boots (who said they are full! They are my 1st choice!)
and Debenhams and their various concessions!
No John Lewis near me or any department store, these are the only two with later hours (Boots is on a retail park)
    Wish me luck!
I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!

boots own brand discount is 22.5 % and you dont get extra for working bank holidays
  • hi

i started as a xmas temp for M&S a couple of years ago, you get a 20% discount (think you get a £500 limit if you are a temp) the main problem is you have to be contracted for a minimum of 16hours and they do like their 4 hour shift but it is an ok company to work for the food waste sale is fantastic and they do take on lots of permanent staff after xmas i stayed for over 2 years only left when i had dd2

I want to get a job just over the Christmas period but am unsure of the best place to apply. I need flexible hours so was thinking Debenhams as they open late, any suggestions?

    Thanx

Does any 1 know what Debenhams pay starts at?

It is #6.11 per hr for Xmas temps. Five years ago at M&S I was on #5.80 so pretty poorly paid tbh.

Also do they double pay on bank hols?

NOT for Xmas temps as they will just argue/incorporate it as part of your weekly contracted hours..
    What Would Bill Buchanan Do?
  • I'm currently 13 weeks into a 15 week contract as an xmas sales assistant with M & S who pay £6.27 per hour and the staff discount is 20%with no limit , I love working there and would love to stay on but there is no budget for extra staff at the moment :( however my manager has stated several times that as soon as she can get a budget for more staff I'm first to be called back :).
I also interviewed and was offered a post at Debenhams however they only paid £5.95 per hr the discount was 15% with a limit and no uniform provided also they advertised for a 20 hrs contract but actually offered me a zero hrs contract so it was a no brainer decision between them or M & S :).
    Natxxx
