PPI claim- Banks cant find the relevant account

Hi, I took out a loan with PPI back in the 1990s.
It was either Barclays or HSBC (Midland back then).
I have no paperwork.

I used Resolver to send in claims.

Barclays came back to me by post within 4 days to say they had no records and that if i wished to take it further to contact the FOS.

I forwarded my claim to the FOS.

The FOS came back to me to say that as the bank had no records they could do nothing.

Is there anything else i can do or am i at the end of the line now?

( Meanwhile HSBC have failed to respond in any way to my complaint.
I have just forwarded complaint to the FOS.
I have been , and still remain, a customer at HSBC since the 1990s.
I have had and still do have various ISAs , savings and current accounts with HSBC.
I also had a mortgage with them for 12 years .
It seems odd that they have not responded to the complaint considering the amount of personal information that they will have regarding my finances etc..)

Any information, help or advise you can offer would be gratefully received.

Happy Easter!:o

Contact HSBC directly, don't use a third party.

Given that you're going back at least twenty years, and you don't even know who the loan was with, I doubt you're going to get far.

Telling you that you can go to the FOS is standard text. It happens at the end of all closed complaints.
The FOS came back to me to say that as the bank had no records they could do nothing.

    The most likely outcome.

That is the end of it. If you have no records and they have no records then its game over. Lets be honest, this was a hit and hope.

It almost certainly means they have never received the complaint. Resolver is a bit prone to the email getting through. It would have been easier to go to the bank directly.
