One of us is more comfortable with their feet up, the other with their feet down. Having the choice of either position, and both being comfortable, seemed ideal... Just because its a recliner doesn't mean it shouldn't work as expected with the foot rest down.0 -
I am a firm believer in not settling for what you know to be wrong. You have not received the furniture you researched and wanted. You have a wobble, it's too far from the ground, and you were told to fix your own bolts!! (Which I would not have done.) You are not happy and surely you have the 14 day cooling off period? Or are DFS above that law? I can't believe that people on here are telling you to put up and shut up. DON'T. I'd contact DFS again and tell them that you are far from satisfied and it's their responsibility to do something to put it right. If all else fails, you sensibly bought the furniture on a credit card and you can apply for a refund via the credit card company and Section 75. I have recently been successful in my application for a Section 75 refund after I bought a faulty car on my credit card. Don't settle for second best, don't mess about and try to repair it yourself! That inspector should have said that they'd take it back and try to repair it themselves, not make you do it. Please don't just settle for second best, you deserve more. Kick up a fuss, go to the store and make a noise, tell other customers how you've been let down, be loud! (My brother in law did that when he was sold a load of rubbish at a bed store, and he got his refund.) But please, do not give up. It might take time, it could take months but it's worth it in the end when the company has to sit up and take notice and give you the customer service that they should have been giving all along. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. He said there was no fault with the sofa, and said from his point of view it had been made correctly to the manufacturer's specifications. He then went on to say that to stop the wobble we could go to Wickes and buy a couple of bolts to bolt the frame together (as it's a recliner it came in 2 parts). Regarding the different seat height to the one in the shop he said the shop example would have been sat on a lot, and if we waited 3-6 months the seat height would probably drop and be the same as the one in the shop if we just wait.
Contact them immediately, tell them you are exercising your 30 day right to reject on the basis that your sofa is not of satisfactory quality and not as described. It's not as described because it's the wrong height, and it's not of satisfactory quality because if the one in the shop didn't wobble when you moved neither should the one you have. I'm alarmed that they casually told you to go buy your own bolts and bolt it together yourself! Don't DFS install the sofa themselves? If it needed bolts to make it stable, it should have been set up with bolts.
Before you go nuclear on them, can you tip it over and check if the height of the feet are adjustable? Sometimes recliner sofas have adjustable feet, like a plastic foot on a metal bolt that you can turn to raise or lower the height. If the feet are set too high, it would make it unstable/wobbly and uncomfortable. If they're telling the truth about the seats losing height with age you may be able to just remove the feet, and put them back once the cushions sink. It's up to you whether you would be happy with that.
You may need to get your own technician out to produce a report, as they clearly think they've already proven it's not faulty. Make sure you're using a different company to the one they used! FIRA, Castellan and Homeserve Furniture Repairs are the big names, but a local upholsterer may be able to do this for you for less money. If the sofa is faulty, they can produce a report stating as such which you can then use to apply pressure to the company you bought from. It will also be useful if you have to go down the Section 75 route. Keep in mind that you will be out the cost of the technician if the company you use does not find a fault, and without the original measurements of the seat height of the one in the shop, you may struggle to prove that it's not the right size. It may well be easier for you to reject it based on the wobble than based on the height difference.
So to clarify, if you prove it's faulty and they still refuse to take it back, you still have the option to go to Barclaycard and do a Section 75 claim. Try to stick to provable facts - the seat height doesn't match the spec you were given when you bought, and the sofa wobbles - rather than "it's not as comfortable as the one we tried out in store".Well informed on the subjects of sofas and wood furniture, and well opinionated on everything else :rotfl:0 -
