We are getting a few phone calls from the following number 333440000, we haven't been in to answer, it leaves the same msg each time which just reads the above number out. We never call back and always delete it. Is this some sort of scam, and how do I stop it. Thanks

  • 03333 440000 is used by many companies to provide an SMS to landline automatic message service. It could have been a courier letting you know of a delivery or it could have been a scammer.

I had one from that number last month, turned out it was my dentist wants me to make an appointment. They did not have my mobile number so used this to the house phone.

The problem was when I answered told me to press one to hear the message, but when I did just keep repeating hit one to hear the message. Found out it was the dentist when I actually phoned to find out why no card reminder for 6-month check up
  • It was an SMS message from my dentist. I don't get a mobile signal at home so they text my landline to remind me of upcoming apppointments. It's the usual, Press 1 to listen, 2 to save, 3 to delete. No probs.

Old post I know but, this might be a legit SMS service, but appears to be a way Marketeers can get around TPS to me. I have had 2 calls today about 'wonderful deals that end at midnight'. After Googling and discovering that this same number can and is used by delivery companies - and expecting some deliveries next week - I have to answer and listen to the message because I have no idea who is really calling me from the number given!

I got scam calls from this number several times a week.  I eventually found out that you can "opt-out" (not that you've opted-in, of course) by contacting the hosting company AQL on 01133 203040 or through their web page www.aql.com/contact
