Consumer Rights Question ! Problem with car whilst in garage

I took my car to get some bodywork repair after being hit by another car in the rear, but when i returned to the garage they "claim" that there is another problem with the ignition which will cost an extra £160. Now when we left the car in to being fixed there was no problem we had the car serviced 2 months ago and an MOT 3 weeks ago, but all of a sudden when have a problem. Is the garage responsible for any breakdown not attributed to the repairs it has down ??
Can car insurance cover this as i dont know whether the garage is to blame or whether its a honest fault with the car
Please help as i dont think it fair for them to return a 'faulty' product and then expect us to pay for repairs that we didnt do !!!

Car insurance is no help with mechanical breakdown like this.
Nor is it likely to be provable that the fault wasn't there when you left it ... it could have happened whilst they had it, or at any time since the MOT or service.
If you don't believe there's actually a fault, don't let them fix it - take it somewhere else. But if there really is a fault, I don't see that it's very likely they actually broke it.0 -
Even if they can demonstrate that there is a fault, you don't have to let them fix it. I use several different garages: the one which does our services and is first port of call often sends us elsewhere for electrical faults, especially the niggly ones they can't trace without specialist equipment. Bodywork always goes somewhere else. I say 'does', that should be 'used to do' - we've got a more reliable car now!MarkyMarkD wrote:If you don't believe there's actually a fault, don't let them fix it - take it somewhere else.
